Following the major success in the spring of the Germany-tour – initiated by the Schöpflin Foundation – of the documentary, FREE TO ROCK, there will now be a second tour of Germany. The film will be shown to audiences in Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden, Neubrandenburg, Rostock and Greifswald; and the film’s executive producer from the USA, Doug Yeager, will also be present. Each showing will be followed by a Q&A. This latest tour is the initiative of the US consulate and is also sponsored by the Schöpflin Foundation.
FREE TO ROCK is a documentary by the four-time Emmy winner, Jim Brown. It shows how the power of rock‘n’roll played its part in the fall of the Soviet Union and the ending of the Cold War, without a drop of blood being spilt – and all this in spite of many efforts by the authorities to ban this form of music. In addition to politicians such as Jimmy Carter and Mikhail Gorbachev, the film also features performances by Elvis Presley, Billy Joel, Metallica, The Beach Boys, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen and many others. FREE TO ROCK has been nominated for a Grammy in the »Best Music Documentary« category. From 17th November, the film will be freely available online for one month via the website of the television channel, ARTE.Newsarchive
