In Lörrach, we have our own cultural and event venue (the Werkraum Schöpflin), a primary school (the Schöpflin School), a centre for addiction prevention (the Villa Schöpflin), Montessori children's venues (Gärtnerhaus Schöpflin and Kinderhaus Schöpflin), and we run our own citizen participation projects (FABRIC). Using our Wandelbudget (Budget for Change) we also promote local civic engagement and support the education landscape in the Lörrach region, providing opportunities for teachers and educators. We do this through our Wandel Macht Schule (Change in our Schools) initiative, which supports the Foundation’s Pädagogisches Forum (Education Forum) project and our series of impulse events known as Lernen Anders (A New Way of Learning).
The focus of our local activities is to help, guide and support children, youths and young adults as they discover and explore awareness-raising and empowerment. We are convinced that a great deal can be achieved with this age group if they are given the right "entry points". During childhood and adolescence in particular, people are receptive, creative and open-minded. At the same time, they critically question their environment and do not simply take everything for granted. During these years, young people make key decisions about their lives, they develop their talents and consolidate their values. Here, the experience of self-effectiveness, the opportunity to discover one's own talents and strengths, and a sympathetic ear at the right moment can have a great impact.
