The Schöpflin Foundation made it possible for school groups from Freiburg, Breisach and Lörrach to experience the trans-national intercultural youth dance project »Dancing to Connect«. In conjunction with the Albert Schweitzer interdenominational school, the project was run by at the Werkraum Schöpflin in Lörrach. Professional dancers from the New York dance school, the Battery Dance Company, spent a week devising a dance piece with young people, some of whom were refugees and some of whom were not. The piece was then performed in the Werkraum on 16th July and at the Freiburg Theatre on 18th July.
The participants were able to discover their creative and dancing potential – and, through having fun, to improve their English. They learned that, through curiosity, team spirit and tolerance, it is possible to have a meaningful and active cultural exchange right on your own doorstep.Newsarchive
