Greenhouse Fellowship | Illustration: Netzwerk Recherche
This year, for the first time, Netzwerk Recherche and the Schöpflin Foundation are offering the "Greenhouse Fellowship," which provides an opportunity to conduct research on a future-oriented issue in journalism. It includes a grant of 2,500 euros, expert advice, access to networks in non-profit journalism, and publication of the results. The fellowship begins in December 2022 and ends in February 2023.
As part of the fellowship, local journalist Dörthe Ziemer will investigate how donation-funded local media in rural areas can gain supporters and how innovative, digital journalism projects from often larger cities relate to the media habits of people in villages and small communities. Are these two worlds colliding? What do people in rural areas expect from local journalism, and how must news services be designed that they would be willing to pay for them on a regular basis? What role do inflation and energy prices play in people's willingness to donate? And what experiential knowledge have other non-profit local media in Germany already gathered? The results will be published in spring 2023.
