Throughout the summer everyone is invited to come along, join in and enjoy the music, films and projects on the FABRIC site in Lörrach-Brombach. Make yourself comfortable on the new do-it-yourself benches and enjoy the fun and games – all out in the fresh air.
The »Frischluftsommer« (open-air summer festival) at FABRIC
The "Open-Air Summer Festival" on the FABRIC site kicks off on July 22 with a free evening of music. At 5:50 p.m., we’ll hear from singer-songwriter Julian Joist, followed by the Lörrach rap poet, Peter Reimtgut, and the artist collective, CreativeCompany. On July 28, the free open-air cinema begins with a silent film with piano accompaniment by Richard Siedhoff; other films will be shown through August 13. And throughout the festival you’ll be able to purchase chilled drinks and light snacks from the construction-site trailer. You do not have to pre-book for the festival; and for the cinema and music evenings, you can decide on the day if you want to come – and simply turn up.
But the music isn’t just limited to the Open-Air Summer festival. Every Tuesday at 6.30pm there will also be music at the ‘Plankiosk’ (site kiosk), in the form of a jam session. It will be a casual get-together at which participants agree on a song, the key and the tempo – and then, quite simply, the music begins.
GartenFABRIC and FABfit - a community garden and sports activities for all
The new GartenFABRIC is a community garden on the FABRIC site. Here, together we can sow seeds, tend the plants and then harvest the produce. It’s a place where we can meet each other and exchange ideas. It’s not just fruits, vegetables and flowers that we want to nurture and grow; we also want to nurture ideas and a grow a community. So, it makes no difference whether you are a keen gardener or have no experience at all of gardening – everyone is welcome!
There is also a broad range of sports on offer – free of charge - to residents of Lörrach. The program includes sports activities, exercise classes, and the chance to meet with other local people. Schöpflin Foundation staff also join in and take part regularly.
Tuesdays, 12:30pm - 1:30pm: Yoga with Nadin Pieper-Füchsel
Wednesdays, 5:00pm - 6:00pm: CrossFit with TwentyNineSeven
You do not have to book in advance – just come along. Please wear casual/sports clothes and bring a mat or large towel.
There is also a new area set aside for playing petanque. The petanque balls can be borrowed from our Plankiosk. We are planning to provide this area with shade in the near future.
A broad program of activities for children and young people
On August 1, the summer vacation workshops start. They will be run in the Schöpflin Werkraum and on the FABRIC site. There will be extra places for children and young people with a refugee background. In addition to the bookable workshops, the FABRIC team is also offering drop-in activities for children and young people on the Brombach site:
August 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Garden Workshop at GartenFABRIC
August 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Sports afternoon featuring various ‘sports islands’
August 26 from 5 p.m. (until late) | Silent open-air disco for young people
Again, you do not need to book in advance for these events; just come along and join in.
A place to join in – a space for ideas
FABRIC is a participatory space for everyone. The Schöpflin Foundation is providing funding - from now through the end of the year - to turn ideas and small projects into reality. Each individual project can apply for a maximum of 500 euros. You can email your ideas to the FABRIC team; or drop by and chat them through face-to-face with the team in Lörrach.
The FABRIC team is always available for questions, requests and suggestions!
