In our democracy, we enjoy the freedom to discuss the shaping of our society openly. At the same time, we are free to question developments and are allowed to demand new negotiations. However, history has also taught us, that having a sustainable and strong democracy, is hard work and requires collaboration from a variety of stakeholders.
On the occasion of this year's motto »Our Democracy« at the Deutscher StiftungsTag, the magazine StiftungsWelt published by the Association of German Foundations dedicated its current issue to this topic. The association asked German foundations and NGO what role foundations could claim in the strengthening and further development of our democracy.
In a detailed interview, Hans Schöpflin and Tim Göbel present their views on the role of foundations. They explain how and why democracy runs like a red thread through the work of the Schöpflin Foundation and also appeal to other foundations to dare more democracy and to see themselves as a kind of midwife for innovative democracy projects.
You can read about the democracy-promoting projects supported by the Foundation in the interview with StiftungsWelt - we hope you enjoy reading it.
