What does the Heraeus Bildungsstiftung do?

The Heraeus Bildungsstiftung is committed to supporting schools that place the learning and development of children and young people at the center. It sees school leaders, teachers, and education authorities as agents of change — people who, with courage and vision, shape a school culture that promotes self-directed learning, a positive feedback and error culture, participation, collaboration, and a focus on competencies. To empower these individuals, the Heraeus Bildungsstiftung offers needs-based seminars, workshops, and networking events on the topics of personal development, leadership, and transformation. The foundation fosters dialogue between schools, academia, politics, business, culture, and society. Together with other foundations and initiatives, it provides fresh impetus and honors outstanding ideas and individuals within the school system. Since 2020, it has been a co-organizer of the German Teacher Award – Innovative Teaching. In 2025, the Heraeus Bildungsstiftung will celebrate its 60th anniversary.

Why are we awarding a grant to the German Teacher Award of the Heraeus Bildungsstiftung?

The Schöpflin Foundation supports the German Teacher Award to recognize the vital role that teachers play in creating a just and future-ready education system. Through its involvement, the award aims to make outstanding pedagogical work visible and socially acknowledged. 
Teachers are key drivers of educational quality and school development — their commitment deserves public appreciation. The award not only strengthens individuals but also fosters broader discourse about the significance of schools and education in our society. The Schöpflin Foundation is particularly committed to the »Outstanding Teachers« category, in which students nominate their teachers for the award. We deeply value and support this form of participation by contributing to the prize money.

What is our mutual goal?

The Schöpflin Foundation supports the »Outstanding Teachers« category, in which graduating students nominate and recommend their most exceptional teachers. Together, we aim to strengthen the Heraeus Bildungsstiftung’s so-called Excellence Camp for award recipients, expand the alumni network, and establish a mentoring program.
