HateAid strengthens human rights in the digital space. The non-profit organisation informs about digital violence and develops solutions for a web where freedom of speech is retained and participation is enabled. People affected by digital violence receive individual consultation. In select cases HateAid supports them to enforce their legal claims, e.g. financing civil lawsuits.
Fear of hate and harassment systematically makes people withdraw from debates on the web. Therefore, HateAid considers digital violence to be a a huge danger for democracy. When people can exchange thoughts respectfully and on equal terms, the digital space can turn into a safe space for the democratic formation of will.
Unfortunately, writers of hatespeech are rarely being held accountable. Together we want to achieve that social media platforms, politics and administration are taking responsibility for our democracy and specifically for people affected by digital violence.
