KI macht Schule empowers students and teachers to engage with Artificial Intelligence in a confident, informed, and responsible way. To achieve this, the non-profit organization develops AI workshops, professional development programs for teachers, and a digital learning platform offering AI-related teaching and learning materials as well as GDPR-compliant AI tools for classroom use. Since 2019, KI macht Schule has reached more than 9,000 students and provided training to over 3,000 teachers. In addition, the organization is part of the consortium leading the development of the Adaptive Intelligent System (AIS), an open AI-powered educational ecosystem for adaptive learning commissioned by all 16 German federal states and implemented by FWU, the German Federal States’ Institute for Educational Media.
Within our »Learning & Participation« program area, we focus on supporting initiatives that strengthen the integration of future skills in schools. Artificial Intelligence has already become an integral part of society and is set to transform the education sector in lasting ways. It is therefore essential that students and teachers learn how to use AI tools safely and responsibly. This will enable them to harness the many opportunities AI offers while mitigating potential risks.
KI macht Schule approaches AI education as a public-interest endeavor that is open, research-informed, and accessible to all. Together, we aim to strengthen and scale this approach across Germany. Our funding supports KI macht Schule in developing technical and pedagogical prototypes for new educational initiatives and in strengthening its leadership team’s capacity for public and policy engagement. The goal is to ensure that young people not only use AI, but also understand how it works, critically assess its implications, and actively shape its future.
