What does metro_polis e.V. do?

metro polis e.V. is committed to fostering constructive communication in public spaces and implements this through the project metro_polis – Outreach Democracy Work in Trams. metro_polis takes place where people gather every day: in the city’s trams. The name metro_polis combines the two essential elements of the project: métro (French for tram) and pólis (Greek for urban society). In places where people from very different life worlds meet daily and naturally spend their travel time waiting in inactivity, metro_polis initiates exchanges among passengers on topics that concern us as a society.

Why have we awarded a grant to metro_polis e.V.?

Innovative formats are needed to rebuild trust in democratic institutions and processes. metro_polis creates spaces from Dresden for target groups that are not reached by existing participation programs. In this way, discourses are negotiated not by polarized fringes, but through the experiences of the societal center.

What is our mutual goal?

Together, we aim to strengthen democracy through constructive conversations and collective processes of opinion formation in everyday life. The ongoing provision of encounters and exchanges in a familiar setting – where previously unknown passengers have gathered in silence – should be normalized and expanded to more cities.
