Critical reporting and uncovering social injustices are among the core tasks of journalism, which performs the role and bears the serious responsibility of functioning as the "fourth estate" in our society.  But how can we strike a balance between providing necessary information and revealing solutions and positive developments?  The Constructive Journalism Day – an annual, one-day journalistic symposium run, since 2018, by the Hamburg Media School and NDR Info - will discuss and answer this question.

This year, the Constructive Journalism Day (#cjd21) will take place as an online event on November 16.  The day offers inspirational ideas based on editorial practice; workshop discussions; and workshops on the application of constructive journalism.  There will also be space for skepticism and criticism of the concept of "constructive" journalism.  The day provides journalists with inspiration for their daily work, and – by networking and exchanging ideas with colleagues - the opportunity to examine more closely the very purpose of their trade.  At the same time, the event will provide readers, listeners and viewers with a transparent insight into how media professionals work on their understanding of their role and function.
