Freedom of expression and freedom of the press are the cornerstones of our democracy – and of a strong Europe. They are democratic goods that must be actively protected. With the newly launched »InInfo« – German Alliance for an Informed Public, initiated in cooperation with our partners, we are taking on this responsibility.
Europe is known as a continent of informed publics. But in recent years, disinformation and propaganda campaigns, hate speech, cyberattacks, and targeted assaults on critical information infrastructures have been on the rise. Tech giants, driven by opaque algorithms and economic self-interest, are undermining access to reliable information. At the same time, Germany’s information industry — comprising over 250,000 jobs in small and medium-sized enterprises — is not only an important economic sector but also a key pillar of democratic resilience. After all, only those who are independently informed can navigate an increasingly complex world.

»A strong democracy depends on people having access to reliable information — everywhere, not just in major cities. With InInfo, we want to help ensure that remains the case.«
Tim Göbel, Schöpflin Foundation’s President
The InInfo alliance is committed to securing, strengthening, and further developing German and European information infrastructure. By this, we mean both technically sovereign distribution channels and trustworthy content. Additional goals include supporting a new generation of media makers, creating legal certainty for public-interest journalism, founding and promoting new local media outlets, and transferring academic research into practice.
InInfo is an initiative by the Schöpflin Foundation, Publix, CORRECTIV, the Media Forward Fund, Die Neuen Medien, GLS Treuhand, Netzwerk Recherche, Steady, Save Social, the Rudolf Augstein Stiftung and the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS.
