The Freiburg Regional Council has granted state recognition to the Schöpflin School – a significant milestone in establishing this independent primary school operated by our foundation. The school opened at the beginning of the 2021/2022 academic year as a privately run, state-approved primary school in Lörrach-Brombach. This summer, the pioneer cohort transitioned to secondary schools. Today, around one hundred children learn in mixed-age groups at Schöpflin School.
»I am delighted about the recognition and the way it anchors our educational approach within the broader landscape of schooling,« says Head of School Andrea Avé. »At the heart of this approach is the individual support for each child – grounded in strong, personal relationships.«
Schöpflin School follows a relationship-centered approach: Instead of traditional frontal instruction, the focus lies on learning at eye level. Teachers – referred to at the school as »learning guides« – support each child individually throughout their learning journey. Participatory formats such as the children’s parliament, school assembly, and open consultation hours enrich everyday school life. The state recognition under §10 of the Private School Act, effective 10th November 2025, also affirms the pedagogical concept lived and practiced at the school.
