What does Tactical Tech do?

Tactical Tech has over two decades of experience working to build capacity in response to the challenges arising from the digital society. To support individuals, communities, NGOs and independent media to engage critically with technology, Tactical Tech develops creative and cutting-edge activations, resources, tools, and training programs. Since it was founded in 2003, the Organization has worked in more than 90 countries with 500 partners, reaching 30 million people worldwide.

Tactical Tech’s Studio creates award-winning digital literacy activations, such as exhibitions, like »AI & Us« and toolkits like the »Data Detox Kit«, that meet audiences and communities where they are, providing them with spaces to learn and discuss key technology-related questions, from small scale events to large exhibitions and can be hosted at conferences, festivals, as well as in museums, libraries and schools.

Tactical Tech’s Institute builds digital fluency among NGOs, journalists and policy makers, convening experts, leading masterclasses, and delivering specialized hands-on courses that develop the cutting edge and evolving issues skills of practitioners, such as AI, digital safety and online influence

Why are we awarding a grant to Tactical Tech?

Tactical Tech makes a vital contribution to strengthening digital literacy and resilience – both for individual citizens and for civil society organizations. The goal: greater understanding, better orientation, and a more critical engagement with the digital world.

What is our mutual goal?

With this grant, we aim to support Tactical Tech developing its social enterprise business model, building of its long-term experience, established methods and assets, with the goal of becoming 50% non-grant funded within the next few years. The goal is to increase its stability and long-term sustainability. Enabling it to continuously meet the needs of its audiences and partners, stay ahead of evolving technologies and socio-political developments, and attract new funding into the broader sector.

This transformation will be driven by the development of new products focused on critical topics such as artificial intelligence, digital fluency across generations, and other emerging technology dependencies. Tactical Tech is eager to innovate new products and build new non-profit business relationships with like-minded organizations around the world that are committed to engaging critically with technology. Tactical Tech’s new offerings will include a range of services such as strategic guidance and consultancy, combined with off-the-shelf exhibitions and toolkits that can be adapted to different local environments to promote digital fluency.
