FABRIC is a sociocultural community space embedded in a large network. Its partners include organizations and initiatives working in youth and neighborhood development, schools and kindergartens, reception centers, as well as local associations and community initiatives. FABRIC is a platform for experimentation, connection and cultural education – a diverse space shaped and brought to life together with local residents.
The word »FABRIC« can mean »structure«, »textile« or »fabric« in English – but it also evokes the ideas of weaving, building and constructing. We chose this name to describe a place that weaves people and their ideas together and seeks to strengthen the social fabric. At the same time, the term is also a reference to the region’s textile industry, a legacy that the Schöpflin family played a significant role in shaping.
FABRIC regularly offers free hands-on activities and a wide range of events for different age groups and interests.
Every week, FABRIC offers a recurring programme – except during school holidays. The activities vary depending on the season and are regularly expanded or adapted. Participation is free of charge, and no registration is required.
Several times a year, FABRIC hosts special events, including the »Flowmarkt«, the »Frischluftsommer« – a two-week programme of outdoor activities –, the »Winterzauber« and the spring festival »FABRIC blüht auf«. We announce upcoming events in good time on Instagram and Facebook. They can also be found on the Werkraum Schöpflin programme page.
The Frischluft Café offers visitors a selection of hot and cold drinks as well as a variety of snacks that change regularly. It is open every Thursday and Friday from 1 to 5 pm (October–April) and from 2 to 6 pm (May–September).
The Plankiosk can be easily used by local groups or community initiatives by prior arrangement. With its covered terrace, it is ideal for jam sessions, project meetings or the »Magic: The Gathering« players’ meet-up.
GartenFABRIC is a community garden for everyone who enjoys gardening, experimenting and harvesting together.
On the FABRIC site, there is a »FAIRteiler« food-sharing station run by volunteers from foodsharing Lörrach e.V. The association works with 20 shops in Lörrach and stocks various FAIRteiler stations across the city with food that can no longer be sold but is still safe to eat. Anyone with surplus food they cannot use themselves can also bring it to the »FAIRteiler«. This helps promote sustainability locally, brings people together and strengthens the idea of sharing and exchanging – much like the public book exchange cabinet that has been on the site for several years. Books can be left there and taken free of charge.
